Mackenzie voted for the House Budget framework that directed the House Energy and Commerce Committee to make $880 billion in cuts. It has been widely reported that House Republicans would have to cut Medicaid in order to achieve that goal. 20 percent, or more than 125,000 Pennsylvanians, in Mackenzie’s district relied on Medicaid or CHIP for health insurance.
Mackenzie opposed legislation that provided affordable health care options to Americans. In 2017, Mackenzie criticized Congress for failing to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. In 2024, U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson said he would get rid of the Affordable Care Act at a Mackenzie campaign event. Mackenzie has also expressed opposition to the Inflation Reduction Act, which lowered prescription drug costs for seniors and would benefit more than 450,000 Pennsylvanians.
Mackenzie supported Trump’s use of tariffs and downplayed their impact, claiming businesses were prepared because they had “already been anticipating something like this.” However, in April 2025 when Mack Trucks said they were laying off between 250 and 350 workers due to tariffs, Mackenzie criticized Mack Trucks for blaming tariffs and tried to shift the blame from the Trump administration.
In 2020, Mackenzie claimed to be 29 years-old in his Tinder profile when he was really 37 years-old. When this gained national attention in 2024, one hundred of Mackenzie’s female constituents wrote to him demanding he apologize. Mackenzie did not apologize and instead accused the women of being “Democrat operatives.” A majority of the women who signed the letter were employed outside of politics.
