Salazar was willing to go against her own word and ignore her constituents to please national party leaders instead of doing what was right for FL-27. Salazar voted for a bill that would kick 17 million Americans off their health insurance, which threatened the health care of more than 99,000 Floridians in her district. She went against her own beliefs and voted against a bill allowing the government to negotiate lower costs of prescription drugs for the seniors in her district. She voted to gut Medicare after claiming she would not take a single dollar away from Medicare. When DOGE and Trump administration cuts weakened the Social Security Administration, she said nothing as seniors in her district faced barriers to accessing their own benefits. Salazar was even the deciding vote to protect Trump’s tariffs as Floridians faced increased prices and a $1,000 tax increase. In 2020, she criticized her campaign opponent for violating the STOCK Act, then she was elected to congress and went on to violate the act a couple of times herself. Salazar again proved untrustworthy when she attempted to take credit for funding that went to her district even though she voted against the bills that appropriate that money. Salazar can’t be trusted to do what is right for FL-27.
- Salazar voted for a bill that would kick 17 million Americans off their health insurance, including nearly 12 million Americans off of Medicaid. As a result of her vote, 99,476 of her own constituents could lose their health insurance.
- Salazar has supported repealing the Affordable Care Act. Despite promising to stand up for Floridians’ access to affordable health care, Salazar’s vote to extend enhanced premium tax credits came too late and premiums costs spiked for Floridians in 2026. The 4.7 million Floridians who rely on the ACA for health insurance won’t forget her failure to stand up to national Republican in time.
Message: Salazar voted to rip away health care from thousands of Floridians all to fund billionaire tax breaks.
- Salazar promised not to take “a single dollar” away from Medicare. Then, she voted for the Big Beautiful Bill, which the Congressional Budget Office estimated would trigger more than $500 billion in cuts to Medicare absent future congressional action.
- Salazar supported DOGE while it weakened the Social Security Administration and said she was “very proud” to join the Congressional DOGE Caucus. At the same time, DOGE cuts to the Social Security Administration had forced mass layoffs, longer wait times and frequent website crashes. There were 135,717 Floridians in the 27th congressional district who relied on Social Security benefits and 6,000 Floridians who were employed by the federal government.
Message: Salazar voted to cut Medicare after claiming she wouldn’t and was “proud” of the Trump administration threatening services Florida seniors relied on.
- In 2021 and 2022, and even still to this day, Salazar claimed she supported the government negotiating lower drug prices, but she voted against the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022, which allowed the government to negotiate lower drug prices for Medicare beneficiaries. In 2021, she also voted against an effort to allow HHS to negotiate the cost of insulin and other drugs.
Message: Salazar went against her own word and betrayed Florida seniors who are paying too much out of pocket for life-saving prescription drugs.
Message: Salazar voted to cut food assistance to fund tax breaks for billionaires.
Message: Salazar was the deciding vote to make Floridians pay higher prices.
Message: Salazar was an anti-choice extremist who voted to restrict women’s reproductive freedom.
- In 2023, Salazar criticized the Biden administration for not being tough enough on Cuba. In 2022, Salazar received $750 in campaign donations from an alleged Cuban spy arrested by the U.S. government. Salazar’s campaign spokesperson claimed she planned to return the money and said she had no personal relationship with the suspected spy. She was the only candidate he had donated to that year.
- In 2018, Salazar faced criticism for a 20-year-old interview she had conducted with Fidel Castro that resurfaced. She responded by claiming the video was manipulated and fought to have it taken down. There were roughly 280,000 Cubans in Salazar’s district. She later posted her interview with Castro on her YouTube page.
- In 2022 and 2023, Salazar violated the STOCK Act for improper disclosure of stock trades. Both times she failed to disclose large stock trades within the required timeframe. In 2020, Salazar accused her opponent of violating the STOCK Act and suggested she could not be trusted to represent the district because of such violations.
Message: According to Salazar’s own words: “How can we trust her to represent Miami or oversee $2 trillion in government funds while she violates and skirts federal law with her own finances?”
- In 2021, the Federal Election Commission (FEC) sent Salazar letters warning her that her campaign finance reports were full of violations. The FEC found that Salazar had accepted excessive contributions above the legal limit and had failed to disclose the proper identifying information of her donors. In 2024, it was revealed that Salazar used the same campaign treasurer as George Santos and her committees had misreported campaign finance totals by $2 million. Three committees connected to Salazar were fined $22,800 after self-reporting the errors.
Message: Salazar can’t be trusted to oversee trillions of dollars in taxpayer money when she can hardly keep her own campaign finances in check.
- Salazar got caught repeatedly attempting to take credit for securing federal funding for local projects that she had voted against. She tried to take credit for funding that went to Florida International University by handing them a check during a photo-op, but she had voted against the bill that appropriated the money. She touted the South Florida Climate Resilience Tech Hub, but had voted against the CHIPS and Science Act. She touted federal funding going to the airport despite having voted against the bipartisan infrastructure law. Salazar claimed she couldn’t remember how she voted on a couple bills. However, her campaign doubled-down and claimed Salazar was standing up to “wasteful spending” in Washington.
Message: Salazar embodied the swamp by voting against funding for her own district then trying to take credit for it in front of the cameras.
