In his short time as Senator, Husted has championed policies that have hurt Ohio families, damaged Ohio’s economy and set America back. Husted voted for legislation that was set to kick Ohioans off their healthcare, ripped food assistance from families and slashed energy credits which was supporting Ohio’s economy. On top of voting for the legislation, he was advocating for deeper cuts. Instead of protecting Ohioan’s healthcare, he allowed necessary subsidies to expire which was set to spike Ohio families insurance premiums. Despite Ohio voting to protect abortion access, Husted continued to attack women’s rights and even started undermining safe medication like mifepristone. To make matters worse, Husted was caught up in Ohio’s largest corruption scandal. Husted helped push through legislation that provided a bailout to FirstEnergy who were bribing officials. Husted seemed more interested in standing up for the DC swamp and corporations than the hard working citizens of Ohio.
¶ Husted Voted For Devastating Health Care Cuts
Husted betrayed Ohioans by voting for a bill that is estimated to kick 17 million American off their health insurance, including nearly 12 million Americans who rely on Medicaid. Despite claiming that the bill wouldn’t cut anyone's benefits and that it was a “pro-family” bill, over 340,000 Ohioans could lose their health insurance as a result of his vote. If it was up to Husted than the cuts would’ve been deeper.
Message: Husted betrayed Ohioans by voting to take health care away from Ohioans all to fund billionaire tax breaks.
¶ Husted Opposed Expanding And Protecting Ohioans Healthcare Coverage
Hinson opposed extending Affordable Care Act subsidies and claimed that the ACA failed. Husted called ACA subsidies a “pandemic failure.” Without extending the ACA subsidies, Ohioans could face a 83 Percent jump in premiums and 107,000 Ohioans could lose coverage.
Message: Husted betrayed Ohioans by refusing to extend and protect their healthcare.
¶ Husted Voted To Take Food Assistance From Ohioans
Husted voted for a bill that made the largest SNAP cut in history. Around 1.4 Million Ohioans rely on SNAP to afford groceries.
Message: Husted voted to take away Ohioan’s ability to afford groceries to fund billionaire tax breaks.
¶ Husted Voted To Protect Damaging Tariffs
Husted defended Trump’s tariffs that were harming Ohio’s economy and was causing Ohioan’s grocery receipts to increase. Husted claimed that the tariffs “haven’t affected the economy negatively” despite evidence showed otherwise.
Trump’s tariffs have harmed Ohio farmers and impacted Ohio’s manufacturing. Instead of standing up for Ohio’s families, Husted voted to protect the damaging tariffs.
Message: Husted is siding with Trump’s trade war and is choosing higher prices and hurting Ohio’s access to global market over protecting affordability and Ohioans’ livelihoods.
¶ Husted Voted Against Protecting Ohioans’ Clean Energy Jobs
Husted voted to repeal clean energy tax credits that supported Ohio’s economy and created jobs. Husted, while touting the bill containing clean energy cuts, posted a photo where he was laughing with energy lobbyists.
Message: Husted voted against protecting Ohioan’s clean energy jobs to give tax breaks to billionaires.
¶ Husted Was An Anti-Abortion Extremist
Husted was a threat to abortion rights in Ohio and actively opposed Ohio’s reproductive rights amendment. Husted supported Ohio’s heartbeat bill that lacked exceptions. Husted attacked mifepristone and falsely claimed that it was unsafe. Husted touted that he “consistently backed the work of Ohio Right to Life.”
Message: Husted rather rip women’s rights away rather than focusing on the issues to actually help families.
¶ Husted Was Involved In Ohio’s Major Corruption Scandal
Husted was at the center of Ohio’s FirstEnergy bribery scandal. The scandal, which dragged down several Republican leaders in Ohio, centered on FirstEnergy which bribed elected officials to support legislation. FirstEnergy funneled $1 million to Husted’s failed gubernatorial campaign. Texts revealed that Husted had direct involvement in pushing H.B. 6 legislation that was tied to the scandal.
Message: Husted entangled in Ohio’s largest corruption scandal in the state’s history.
