Hinson betrayed Iowans by voting for a bill that is estimated to kick 17 million Americans off their health insurance, including nearly 12 million Americans who rely on Medicaid. Over 86,000 Iowans could lose their health insurance as a result of her vote. Hinson was met with a chorus of boos from upset Iowans when she touted the legislation and it’s cuts.

In July 2025, Hinson voted for, according to Congressional Quarterly, the “motion to concur in the Senate amendment to the bill that would permanently extend nearly $4 trillion in expiring individual and business tax cuts, create several new tax breaks and fund border and immigration enforcement and air traffic control upgrades. It would cut Medicaid and other safety net programs to partly offset the cost. Among other provisions, it would raise the statutory debt ceiling by $5 trillion and appropriate more than $448 billion in mandatory funding for Trump administration priorities and other needs, including $153 billion for defense, $89 billion for immigration enforcement, and $89.5 billion for border control and security. It also would increase the state and local tax deduction cap to $40,000 annually for five years for households making up to $500,000 a year until 2030, when it would permanently revert to $10,000.” The House passed the bill by a vote of 218 to 214. [AUDIO] Hinson Claimed That The OBBB Was What The American People Voted For And Wanted To See Happen. “it appears that they are trying to from the inside tank this bill. And I think that's wrong. This bill is what the American people voted for. And when we look at what's happening in the Senate right now and the process that's playing out, this is exactly what 77 million Americans want to see happen.” [Breitbart News Saturday, 6/21/25]
[AUDIO] Hinson Claimed That The One Big Beautiful Bill Contained Good Things For Iowans. “And and I've been out in the district yesterday, had three stops in Dubuque County talking about one big, beautiful bill. Right. All the good things in there for Iowa taxpayers. No tax on tax tips, no tax on overtime and making sure we're protecting seniors and taxpayers.” [Voice Of Iowa Morning Show, 8/19/25]
Hinson Claimed That The Bill Were Aimed At The Middle Class. According to the Washington Post, “Rep. Ashley Hinson praised President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill at her fifth annual ‘BBQ Bash’ here last weekend, celebrating the measure’s changes to taxes on tips and other tax cuts that she says are aimed at the middle class.” [Washington Post, 8/29/25]
[VIDEO] Hinson Claimed That The Only People Losing Access To Benefits From The “One Big Beautiful Bill” Were Undocumented Immigrants And “People Gaming The System.” “So you have people who are disabled, who qualify for Medicaid, who qualify for SNAP because they meet those requirements and they're working. So at the bare minimum, the only people who need to be worried about losing access to benefits are illegal immigrants and people who are gaming the system. And so when I go out to the communities and I talk about that, people are like, Yeah, it seems fair that if you are an able bodied working adult, that if you're taking that government benefit funded by taxpayers, that you should have a job.” [KTTC Interview, 8/30/25]
[AUDIO] Hinson Wanted The “Big Beautiful Bill” To Do Deeper Cuts. “So I hope they make minimal changes because of the work that we've done in the House to flush this bill out and get it to a point where it could pass. And again, to the the conservatives who want to pass even further cuts. Hey, I wish we could go further, too, but we have to build a consensus.” [Fox News Rundown, 6/4/25]
[AUDIO] Hinson Claimed That The Reforms To Medicaid Was Strengthening Benefits. “I would say it's the exact opposite. We're strengthening these benefits for the vulnerable, vulnerable Americans who actually need them. The program Medicaid was intended for single mothers who need to be able to feed their children. And when I look at people who are gaming the system, people ask me about this. It's like, Well, if you're gaming the system, then yeah, you do have something to be worried about here. We had 1.4 million illegal immigrants on Medicaid. We also had millions of people who were.” [The Guy Benson Show, 05/27/25]
[AUDIO] Hinson Claimed That “Changes Need To Be Made” To Medicaid. “Right. So I say if you want efficiency for taxpayers to make sure these programs will continue to exist, these changes need to be made. Changes like kicking 1.4 million illegal immigrants off of Medicaid, making sure Medicaid isn't paying for transgender surgeries, making sure that we are not paying for people to be enrolled in Medicaid in two states. Those are all commonsense things that I think Iowans certainly support on the whole, and I think Americans do, too. And so, again, the reason why I do these town halls is because we need to be able to get out there and tell the story of why we're making these changes. And I think once we explain those to people and get rid of the fear again, that's being stoked by some on the left, we can say, hey, these are these are responsible changes that have needed to happen for a very, very long time. And I think righting the ship takes some time, but I think it's up to us to go out and use our megaphone to make sure we're we're clearing things up for people.” [Fox News Rundown, 6/4/25]
[AUDIO] Hinson Claimed That There Was Fearmongering Surrounding The One Big Beautiful Bill And It’s Cuts. “Yeah, I think the fearmongering is atrocious around this bill. And you're right, it is the only thing that they have is to capitalize on the fear and the emotion. And that's why I wanted to do those town halls. And I will continue to do town halls in my district because they can come and boo and yell and jeer but I had people there who were legitimately concerned and wanted to hear what I had to say and clarify what's actually in these bills, which is a work requirement to receive Medicaid or to get SNAP benefits. These programs that cost American taxpayers billions and billions of dollars every single year. People want to know that the people who need them get the benefits that they they need, but also that they're not being gamed. And so when we talk about waste, fraud and abuse and the amount of work that we've put into making sure we're explicitly exempting caretakers of the disabled or if you are medically infirm. Right. Those are priorities that we heard loud and clear from our constituents, that we don't want those people to lose coverage. And so when the Democrats are out there saying, you know, the worst the sky is going to fall and this is the worst bill ever, I think what what is atrocious about it is they are stoking that fear in the American people. It's just irresponsible.” [The Simon Conway Show, 06/05/25]
