- McGuire supported extreme anti-choice policies that put Virginian women at-risk. In 2023, he co-sponsored the Life at Conception Act, a near-total abortion ban that provided no protection for IVF. He celebrated the overturning of Roe v. Wade, pushed anti-abortion legislation that was rooted in misinformation, and proudly supported anti-abortion organizations.

According to the Washington Post, "The congressional proposal, known as the Life at Conception Act, defines a ‘human being’ to ‘include each member of the species homo sapiens at all stages of life, including the moment of fertilization or cloning, or other moment at which an individual member of the human species comes into being.’ The bill would also provide equal protection under the 14th Amendment ‘for the right to life of each born and preborn human person.’ The measure has no provisions for processes like IVF, meaning access to the procedure would not be protected. 1/23/25: McGuire Voted For The So-Called “Born-Alive” Bill And Urged His Fellow Congressmembers To “Vote For Life.” According to a press release from Rep. John McGuire, “U.S. Representative John McGuire (VA-05), today voted for the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, legislation that ensures that babies born after an abortion receive care. ‘Life is a miracle, and it must be protected,’ said Rep. September 2021: McGuire Attended The Virginia March For Life And Urged Americans To “Keep The Faith” And “Protect Life.” According to Detroit Catholic, “Republican Delegate John McGuire said he often wears a baby sock pinned to his lapel to signal his support for the protection of the unborn. ‘Our most precious, our most vulnerable must be protected at all costs,’ he said. ‘My father and mother had alcohol and substance abuse problems, I was abandoned and I ended up in foster homes. ‘Some of these foster homes had religion, and some didn't, but those Sunday school lessons stuck with me for life.
