2019: Schweikert Voted Against Granting Venezuelans Temporary Protective Status For 18 Months. In July 2019, Schweikert voted against a bill that would, according to Congressional Quarterly, "grant temporary protected status to Venezuelans in the U.S. for an initial 18-month period. To receive TPS status, qualifying individuals must be continuously present in the U.S. after enactment, be legally admissible to the U.S. as immigrants, and register with the Homeland Security Department. It would require DHS to give prior consent for individuals covered under TPS to travel abroad in emergencies or extenuating circumstances." The vote was on passage.
