Herrera Laughed And Said, “This Is So Fucking Wrong” After Shooting A Ballistic Dummy Head Representing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. According to a YouTube video posted by Brandon Herrera, “HERRERA: So today we’re going to use cameras and a ballistic dummy head and I am going to explain exactly where Dr. King was shot that day in that motel and attempt to visually recreate the damage. […][LAUGHS] That’s so fucking wrong [HERRERA WASHES THE FAKE BLOOD OFF OF THE TABLE USING A WHITE CLAW] It’s only polite to wash the blood off a bit. Sorry Matt.” [YouTube, @brandonherrera, 11/7/23] (00:03:26 -> 00:03:32) […] (00:12:05 -> 00:12:21)
Herrera Said He Tried To Introduce His Own Dark Humor When Recreating The Assassination Of Martin Luther King Jr. According to a YouTube video posted by Brandon Herrera, “HERRERA: So today we’re going to use cameras and a dummy head to show exactly where Dr. King was shot that day. […]On a real note guys, this has obviously been an interesting line to walk this video because you know this is obviously a pretty somber and serious topic but we’re trying to introduce our own dark and edgy humor like we always do. And the hard part is finding that right balance, which hopefully we did today.” [YouTube, @brandonherrera, 11/7/23] (00:03:26 -> 00:03:32) […] (00:12:23 -> 00:12:35)

The Sons Of Confederate Veterans Was An Organization That Sought To Preserve The History And Legacy Of Confederate Soldiers. According to the Sons Of Confederate Veterans, “Today, the Sons of Confederate Veterans is preserving the history and legacy of these heroes so that future generations can understand the motives that animated the Southern Cause. The SCV is the direct heir of the United Confederate Veterans, and the oldest hereditary organization for male descendants of Confederate soldiers. Organized at Richmond, Virginia in 1896, the SCV continues to serve as a historical, patriotic, and non-political organization dedicated to ensuring that a true history of the 1861-1865 period is preserved. Membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans is open to all male descendants of any veteran who served honorably in the Confederate armed forces.” [Sons of Confederate Veterans, Viewed 5/21/26]
Sons Of Confederate Veterans Opposed Creating A Memorial For Martin Luther King Jr. Atop Stone Mountain, A Confederate Memorial. According to New York Times, “The idea is suffused with a simple poetry: A bell would be placed atop Stone Mountain, the massive granite outcropping east of Atlanta invoked by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in his ‘I Have a Dream’ speech — one of the places from which, as Dr. King imagined it, a nation no longer divided by racism might ‘let freedom ring.’ […] Opposition came quickly, and perhaps expectedly, from the Georgia division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, who said that the mountain, which is adorned with a huge carving depicting Confederate heroes, is classified as a Confederate memorial by state statute. ‘The erection of monuments to anyone other than Confederate heroes in Stone Mountain Park,’ the group said in a written statement, ‘is in contradistinction to the purpose for which the park exists and would make it a memorial to something different.’” [New York Times, 10/21/15]

Some Members Of The Sons Of Confederate Veterans Overlap With Violent Neo-Confederate Groups Such As The League Of The South. According to Guardian, “Leaked membership data from the neo-Confederate Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) organization has revealed that the organization’s members include serving military officers, elected officials, public employees, and a national security expert whose CV boasts of ‘Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance.” But alongside these members are others who participated in and committed acts of violence at the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, and others who hold overlapping membership in violent neo-Confederate groups such as the League of the South (LoS). The group, organized as a federation of state chapters, has recently made news for increasingly aggressive campaigns against the removal of Confederate monuments. This has included legal action against states and cities, the flying of giant Confederate battle flags near public roadways, and Confederate flag flyovers at Nascar races.” [Guardian, 6/28/21]
