Bean has long been an anti-choice extremist, starting from his time in the Florida Senate when he attended an anti-abortion protest outside a Planned Parenthood and called the organization “evil” for providing reproductive health care. Bean later called abortion a “horrible procedure” while pushing legislation that tightened regulations on abortion clinics, and in a debate over the legislation called for getting Florida “out of the abortion business.” In 2022, Bean voted for Florida’s 15-week abortion ban that endangered Floridians.
Bean’s anti-abortion behavior continued in Congress. He voiced opposition to a ballot amendment to enshrine the right to abortion in Florida’s constitution that 57 percent of Floridians supported, and touted receiving a high score from the anti-choice Family Research Council Action for his “pro-faith, pro-family, and pro-freedom” voting record.

According to NPR, "SCOTT SIMON, HOST: On Election Day, more than 57% of Floridians voted in favor of a state constitutional amendment that would protect access to abortion. The Life At Conception Act Would Have Banned Nearly All Abortions Nationwide. According to the Washington Post, "The congressional proposal, known as the Life at Conception Act, defines a ‘human being’ to ‘include each member of the species homo sapiens at all stages of life, including the moment of fertilization or cloning, or other moment at which an individual member of the human species comes into being.’ The bill would also provide equal protection under the 14th Amendment ‘for the right to life of each born and preborn human person.’ The measure has no provisions for processes like IVF, meaning access to the procedure would not be protected. It would ban nearly all abortions nationwide." [Washington Post, 2/25/24]
2022: Bean Voted For A 15-Week Abortion Ban In Florida. According to WJCT News, “Florida doctors could soon be prohibited from performing abortions past 15 weeks of pregnancy, after the Republican-controlled Senate approved a bill Thursday night that is headed to Gov. Ileana Garcia, R-Miami, did not vote on the bill, while one Senate seat is vacant.”
A Florida OBGYN Recounted How They Had To Deny Care To Suffering Patients Due To The 15-Week Abortion Ban. According to Physicians for Human Rights, “Another Florida obstetrician-gynecologist told PHR about having to wait weeks until a patient’s ‘kidneys [were] about to fail’ until they could offer pregnancy termination under the state’s previous 15-week ban: ‘I strongly remember a patient who had severe kidney disease … She was getting sicker and sicker….[We] had to bring it to the head people of the hospital and be like, ‘What are we allowed to do?’ And they were like, ‘She’s not sick enough yet.’ … …I think it took over two weeks for us to get an answer from the hospital administrators. …So that hit very strongly, because it was kind of insane that we had to wait for her to become sicker. We had to wait for her creatinine to bump and her kidneys to be about to fail before we were allowed to even offer her [termination]. Then we had to jump through so many hoops to be able to do it. It really changed everything that we did in our practice.’” [Physicians for Human Rights, 9/17/24]
February 2016: Bean Voted For A Bill Tightening Regulations On Abortion Clinics And Called Abortion A “ Horrible Procedure.” According to WUSF, “A sweeping bill that would tighten regulations on abortion clinics passed a Senate panel Wednesday on a 5-3 vote along party lines. The bill bans the sale and donation of fetal remains from an abortion and increases the penalties for the improper disposal of fetal remains. It also restricts state agencies, local governments and Medicaid managed-care plans from contracting with organizations that own, operate or are affiliated with clinics that perform abortions. ‘Don't force us to pay for this horrible procedure,’ said Sen. Aaron Bean, R-Fernandina Beach. ‘Leave the taxpayers out of it.’” [WUSF, 2/18/16]
During A Debate On The Bill, Bean Called For Getting Florida “Out Of The Abortion Business.” According to Reuters, “Florida legislators on Wednesday approved abortion restrictions that include requirements for physicians similar to a Texas law currently under review by the Supreme Court and prohibited state funding for routine care at abortion clinics. The measure imposes regulations that could force clinics to close, provider Planned Parenthood said. Supporters argue it aims to protect women's health, while opponents called it an attack on groups assisting women in terminating pregnancies. ‘Let’s get Florida out of the abortion business,’ said State Senator Aaron Bean, a Republican from Jacksonville, during a heated debate. ‘That’s what this bill does.’” [Reuters, 3/9/16]

July 2015: Bean Joined An Anti-Abortion Rally Hosted By The Women Betrayed Movement That Claimed Planned Parenthood Was Illegally Profiting From Abortions. According to WGCU, “Anti-abortion activists held a rally next door to a Planned Parenthood in Jacksonville on Tuesday as part of a national movement to defund the health centers. The Women Betrayed movement started in response to a video posted by the conservative group Center for Medical Progress. More than 200 anti-abortion activists met in the parking lot of a Mandarin Woody’s Bar-B-Q, lining the sidewalks next to the only Planned Parenthood in Northeast Florida. Similar rallies are happening at Planned Parenthoods across the country in reaction to a recently released video that purports to show a senior Planned Parenthood director discussing the sale of aborted fetus tissue. Anti-abortion activists say Planned Parenthood is illegally profiting from abortions. Sen. Aaron Bean (R-Fernandina Beach) joined the rally. He says the video is appalling and thanked anti-abortion activists for their work. ‘Are we going to sit by as evil continues business as usual?’ Bean asked the crowd. ‘No!’ they responded. ‘That’s the right answer,’ Bean said.” [WGCU, 7/28/15]
