Monica De La Cruz was out-of-touch with the Texans she claimed to represent. She has spent most of her time in Congress voting to rip away access to critical programs, like health care and food assistance, that Texans relied on. She was an anti-choice extremist opposing exceptions even for rape and incest. She also lacks the temperament for the job. While running for Congress in 2021, De La Cruz’s then-husband requested a restraining order against her and accused her of “cruel and aggressive conduct” toward his 14-year-old daughter. A judge ruled that she was prohibited from going home until her election was over. She also opposed COVID-relief spending packages despite having collected more than a hundred thousand dollars in relief money for her own businesses. De La Cruz cannot not be trusted to represent her constituents’ best interests.
¶ De La Cruz Voted To Rip Health Coverage From Texans
- De La Cruz voted for a bill that would kick 17 million Americans off their health insurance, including nearly 11.8 million Americans off of Medicaid. As a result of her vote, more than 66,000 of her own constituents in the old TX-15 could lose their health coverage.
- Before voting for the bill, De La Cruz signed a letter urging Republican leadership not to slash Medicaid. After voting for the bill that slashed Medicaid, De La Cruz claimed she was “proud” to have voted for the Republicans’ sweeping cuts.

- Despite claiming she opposed cuts to Social Security and Medicare, De La Cruz voted for the House Republicans’ reconciliation bill, which would trigger nearly $500 billion in Medicare cuts, absent future congressional action.
- In 2020, De La Cruz said in a campaign survey that she would support a plan that could lead to privatizing Social Security. De La Cruz was also a member of the Republican Study Committee, which has advocated for raising the retirement age and turning Medicare into a voucher system. More than 131,000 Texans in the old 15th congressional district relied on Social Security benefits.

¶ De La Cruz Was The Deciding Vote To Protect Trump’s Tariffs That Were Hurting TEXANS
- De La Cruz voted to protect Trump’s tariffs six times, including in April 2025 when she was the deciding vote to protect them in Congress. She claimed the tariffs would bring economic success and praised Trump for threatening tariffs on Mexico in April 2025. De La Cruz neglected to speak out against Trump’s tariffs as they were hurting Texas’s economy and restaurant industry.

¶ De La Cruz Was An Anti-choice Extremist Who opposed exceptions in cases of rape and incest
- De La Cruz, who celebrated the overturning of Roe V. Wade, opposed abortions even in cases of rape and incest. After Roe v. Wade was overturned, Texas enforced a near-total abortion ban that has resulted in women being hospitalized for serious infections at a higher rate and at least two women dying after experiencing miscarriages. She believed life begins at conception and also tried to hide her extreme anti-choice views, but gradually scrubbing them from her website between 2020 and 2024.

¶ De La Cruz Faced Child Abuse Allegations From Her Ex-Husband
- In 2021, De La Cruz’s ex-husband accused her of “cruel and aggressive conduct” toward his 14-year-old daughter. De La Cruz’s ex-husband, requested a restraining order against her citing mistreatment of his daughter, who faced mental health problems. Hernandez claimed De La Cruz threatened to divorce him if he brought his child back home after she was hospitalized.
- In 2022, a judge ruled De La Cruz was prohibited from returning home until after her congressional primary. De La Cruz denied the abuse accusations.

- After accepting COVID-19 relief money for herself, De La Cruz heavily criticized the Biden administration’s relief packages. She claimed the American Rescue Plan Act, which provided more funding for programs she had benefited from in 2020, caused the “destruction of small business” and “higher prices.”

She never signed the discharge petition to release the Epstein Files, and she never co-sponsored legislation calling for the files to be released.
