Bryan Steil is an extreme MAGA-loyalist who voted to rip away health care and food assistance away from his own constituents. He even opposed lowering the cost of prescription drugs to help Wisconsinites afford medications. While taking away health care from his constituents, he was also breaking promises he made them. He promised he would protect Medicare, but voted for the Republican budget bill that would trigger cuts to Medicare. He promised he would protect Social Security benefits for his constituents, but sat idly by while Donald Trump and DOGE weakened the Social Security Administration. He also showed bad judgement when he doubled down on his decision to hire a former Trump staffer who was involved in trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Steil has proven to be an untrustworthy representative for the people of Wisconsin’s first congressional district.
¶ Steil Voted To Rip Health Insurance Away From Wisconsinites Who Relied On Medicaid
- Steil voted for a bill that would kick 17 million Americans off their health insurance, including nearly 12 million Americans off of Medicaid. As a result of his vote, 32,339 of his own constituents could lose their health insurance. Steil told voters his vote for the “One Big Beautiful Bill” would “strengthen” Medicaid rather than admit his vote significantly cut the program.
- Steil believed the Affordable Care Act had “failed,” even though the Affordable Care Act dramatically lowered the rate of uninsured low-income workers. He also voted against renewing enhanced ACA premium tax credits, which an estimated 271,589 Wisconsinites relied on to afford health insurance.

¶ Steil Opposed Lowering The Cost Of Prescription Drugs For Seniors
- Steil voted against the Inflation Reduction Act and opposed allowing the government to negotiate lower price for prescription drugs because he believed it would stifle research and development. The inflation reduction act capped the cost of insulin and allowed Medicare to negotiate better drug prices.
Message: Steil opposed alleviating costs for Americans who were paying too much out of pocket for prescription drugs.

In August, 2025, Steil defended Trump’s tariffs and got booed by his constituents because of the harm they were bringing to farmers and small business owners in Wisconsin.

In Congress, Steil was a staunch anti-abortion advocate. He voted against the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would have codified the right to receive abortion services. He also supported the so-called Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which could have resulted in criminal penalties for medical providers.
