Bryan Steil is an extreme MAGA-loyalist who voted to rip away health care and food assistance away from his own constituents. He even opposed lowering the cost of prescription drugs to help Wisconsinites afford medications. While taking away health care from his constituents, he was also breaking promises he made them. He promised he would protect Medicare, but voted for the Republican budget bill that would trigger cuts to Medicare. He promised he would protect Social Security benefits for his constituents, but sat idly by while Donald Trump and DOGE weakened the Social Security Administration. He also showed bad judgement when he doubled down on his decision to hire a former Trump staffer who was involved in trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Steil has proven to be an untrustworthy representative for the people of Wisconsin’s first congressional district.
Message: Steil voted to rip away health care from thousands of Wisconsinites.
Message: Steil opposed alleviating costs for Americans who were paying too much out of pocket for prescription drugs.
Steil claimed he wanted to protect Social Security and Medicare, but instead he voted for a bill that would have triggered nearly $500 billion in Medicare cuts. He also defended DOGE as they weakened Wisconsinites’ access to the Social Security Administration with mass layoffs.
Steil was a member of the Republican Study Committee, which advocated for raising the retirement age and increasing the cost of health care for Medicare beneficiaries.
Message: Steil voted to rip Medicare away from seniors after claiming he would protect it and sat idly by while the Trump administration weakened his constituents’ access to their Social Security benefits.
Message: Steil voted to cut food assistance to fund tax breaks for millionaires.
Message: Steil was the deciding vote to make Wisconsinites pay higher prices.
In 2022, Steil celebrated the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe V. Wade, claiming it was a “great victory for life.” Steil is “proudly pro-life,” or so his website claimed until he deleted the page with his abortion position.
In Congress, Steil was a staunch anti-abortion advocate. He voted against the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would have codified the right to receive abortion services. He also supported the so-called Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which could have resulted in criminal penalties for medical providers.
Message: Steil is an extremist who wants to restrict women’s freedoms.
Steil claimed he wanted the Epstein Files released, but it took him 11 months to vote to release the Epstein files. In November 2025, Steil finally voted to release the Epstein files, but only after Donald Trump gave House Republicans permission to do so.
Previously, Steil had cast the deciding vote against releasing the Epstein files, protecting the accused pedophiles named within them. Steil also never signed the discharge petition that called for their release and he never co-sponsored Reps. Thomas Massie and Ro Khanna’s resolution calling for their release.
Message: Steil claimed the public deserved the truth about the Epstein files, but it took him 11 months to vote to release the Epstein files and he did only after Trump gave Republicans permission.
Message: Steil’s showed a lack of judgement by hiring someone who was involved in efforts to overturn 2020 election results.
